James Russell to Gabriel Harden This indenture made this 28th day of April A.D. 1762 between James Russell of Cumberland in the Province of North Carolina on the one part; & Gabriel Harden of Sunenbury [Lunenburg] County & Province of Virginia of the other part. Witnesseth, that the sd. James Russell for ... the sum of Two hundred pounds Proc[lamation] money ... convey ... unto him the sd. Gabriel Hardin ... one certain tract or parcel of land lying & being in the County & Province afsd. containing 220 acres, more or less, lying on the So. side of Deep River, Beginning at a Sugartree, then along a straight line to a red oak; then along a line to a white; along a line to a sugar tree at the upper end of the land; then down the River to the first station ... and I, Mary Russell, the wife of James Russell do by these presents freely and willingly give up & surrender all her right of dower and power of thirds of & unto the above promises unto him the sd. Gabriel Harden his heirs & assigns. In witness whereof we set our hands & seals 28th day of April 1762.
