SILVER CREEK GRANTS SURROUNDING JOHN HARDIN (These notes are dated 16 Apr 2020)

Grant, Burke County, Silver Creek, John Hardin, 50 acres. 8 Feb 1787; 11 Dec 1800. Note: I've not found the Hardin survey but it was extracted by Robert L. McNeely of Chattanooga, Tenn. here:

Note the mention of Falling Branch of Silver Creek, a feature not mentioned by any of the adjacent landowners' records. However I do not locate any of the branches mentioned in this grant or adjacent grants, so I can't locate Hardin's land along the 14-mile length of Silver Creek.

State of North Carolina. No. 2878. Know ye that we have granted unto John Harden fifty acres of land in Burke County on Silver Ceek, beginning on a pine in John Persons line runs north sixteen chains to a pine, then east thirty one chains to a pine, then sough sixteen chains to a white oak, then west to the beginning. Entered the 8th of February 1787. To hold to the said John Hardin his heirs and assigns forever. Dated 11th of Decr. 1800

Surveyed a tract of land for John Peerson Lying on both sides Gilley's fork of Silver Creek. Bounded by lands belonging to old W. Derriberry, Widow Derriberry, James Thompson, John Kennedy. & said Peersons own land. Beginning at a white oak near a branch on the east side of said creek and runs with Derriberry's land south eighty four deg. West two hundred and thirty two poles, crossing the creek to a white oak and gum in the line of said Peersons first survey – Thence with said line north nineteen deg. West two hundred and seventy poles to said Peersons N.E. Corner sake. Thence on Kennedy's line north fifty five deg. East three hundred & seventy five poles to a white oak on the west bank of the FALLING BRANCH – Thence south four hundred & thirty four poles to the beginning – Containing six hundred acres.

The letter to surveyor of above: "land lying on Canadayes fork off Silver Creek called Gileys Forke Including the improvements maid by said Giley and all said Peerson's claims by improvement on branches on said forke for complement entered December the 10th 1778.
