Recent reconsiderations and changes in thinking

1. After reconsideration, John Hardin  of Chatham County, NC was born 1733 and was the youngest son of Samuel Hardin. John was in gestation when his father's 1732 will left a legacy to be divided between son William and the baby if it was a boy. There were no boy children between them included in the legacy. Samuel at his court hearing did not mention John as a brother because he was a step-brother or -- in spite of being age 20 -- he was still at his mother's home.

1. John Hardin of Chatham County whose wife was named Sarah did not migrate to Pendleton District with Gabriel. The John Hardin who migrated to Pendleton District was married to Ann and was the eldest son of Gabriel. He was born before 1770 and had a wife and one young daughter in 1790. He left Pendleton before the census of 1800.

2. Revised July 2020: John Hardin of Montgomery County NC is most likely the eldest son of Gabriel Hardin (1715) His  son Moses has I-M253 DNA. His daughter Temperance married a neighboring Lewis Bolin. John's aging father Gabriel's place on Barnes Creek was only three miles from John on the West Fork of Little River in northern Montgomery County. John of Indiana can not be fit into the Gabriel Hardin family. Consider that he might be a nephew of old Gabriel: a son of Thomas who died in 1749, of Samuel, Jr. who died in 1753, or even a son of their brother William.
